Right of Withdrawal vs. GDPR

BookRouter™ powered websites are compliant with the EU's 'Right of Withdrawal', not to be confused with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The 14 day "cooling-off period" comes from a separate regulation. You can read about Bibliopolis' GDPR compliance in the fine print on our website. The table below shows the basic differences between the two directives.

We have built a new opt-in feature that helps booksellers comply with the EU consumer law (Directive 2023/2673), effective June 19, 2026. The law requires any store selling to EU customers to give them an easy online way to cancel an order ("withdraw from the purchase") within the 14-day cooling-off period.

Learn how to use the new Right of Withdrawal feature below.

How to use the new feature on your website

1) Go to Website > Site Settings > Business Details in the BookRouter™ menu. There is a new "EU Right of Withdrawal" section next to Cookie Consent. See Screenshot:

2) Set Enable: Yes, then choose whether to show it to EU visitors only or all visitors, and optionally set a notification email (otherwise it uses their Orders email). This toggle is available in both the new BookRouter™ Platform) and legacy admin.

What the customer sees

When enabled, a "Cancel your order" link appears in the website footer (see screenshot). The customer clicks it, enters their name and order number, reviews, and confirms — then immediately receives a confirmation email, and the request is logged.

What the bookseller does with a request

New requests appear under Customers → Manage Withdrawals, and a banner alerts them when requests are waiting. They can review each one, see the matched order, add notes, and mark it processed. The feature only records the customer's request to cancel — the bookseller still handles the actual refund/return through their normal order process.
