BookHound 8 - Mac OS Sonoma Update

1. Introduction

Users of BookHound 8 may encounter loading issues after upgrading their macOS to the latest Sonoma release. This guide provides a solution for those who experience this specific issue. If BookHound starts up normally without any prolonged spinning or delays, there's no need to follow this procedure.

Users of BookHound 7ce or earlier should NOT upgrade to macOS Sonoma and should refrain from performing any of the updates provided below.

Users of BookHound 8, if you have not upgraded to Sonoma do NOT perform this update.

1. Introduction

Users of BookHound 8 may encounter loading issues after upgrading their macOS to the latest Sonoma release. This guide provides a solution for those who experience this specific issue. If BookHound starts up normally without any prolonged spinning or delays, there's no need to follow this procedure.

Users of BookHound 7ce or earlier should NOT upgrade to macOS Sonoma and should refrain from performing any of the updates provided below.

Users of BookHound 8, if you have not upgraded to Sonoma do NOT perform this update.

 

2. Symptoms of the Issue

When launching BookHound 8 after the macOS Sonoma upgrade:

  • The application may hang or get stuck during startup.
  • You may witness prolonged spinning without the application fully loading.

If you do not have a file named Data.fmpur in your BookHound 8 folder

3. Solution

For users who experience the above symptoms, please follow the steps below:

  1. Download the Required File
    • By default, for most users, this folder is located in Applications > BookHound 8.
    • If you have a custom installation or have moved the application, the folder might be in a different location such as your Desktop or another directory.
  2. Move the Downloaded File
    • Drag and drop (or copy-paste) the file you just downloaded into your BookHound 8 folder.
  3. Rename the Current Application File
    • Locate the current BookHound application file in your BookHound 8 folder.
    • Rename this file to BookHound-old.
  4. Un-compress the Downloaded File
    • Right-click on the BookHound.zip file you downloaded.
    • Select Open With > Archive Utility to unzip the file.
  5. Launch BookHound 8
    • Try starting BookHound 8 now.
    • If you receive an alert stating that the application cannot be opened because it's from an unidentified developer:
      • Right-click on the BookHound application icon.
      • Select theOpenoption from the menu.
      • A prompt will ask if you're sure you want to open the application even though it's not verified. ClickOpen.
    • If you get an alert stating that the Primary file 'Data' cannot be found. Perform the following steps:
      • Click cancel on the dialog box that should have opened.
      • Hold down the 'option' key and drag the 'BookHound' application icon on to the desktop. This should create a copy.
      • Drag that copy from the desktop, back into the BookHound 8 folder. It should ask you if you want to replace the existing BookHound application file. Say Yes.
      • Try restarting BookHound by clicking on the appplication icon.
